What skin type is Tarte Face Tape foundation suited to?
For the ladies who struggle to find a full coverage, hydrating foundation, the Tarte Face Tape foundation should be added to your kit immediately.
Tarte’s formula is infused with many hydrating agents such as hyaluronic acid and snow mushroom, meaning that it looks great on dry skin as it helps to provide moisture. Rather than giving a cakey look that clings to dry areas on the skin, the Face Tape foundation spreads evenly, allowing the skin to look dewy while still being full coverage. However, this is not to say that it does not suit normal to oily skin, as everyone needs hydration.
Our Tarte Face Tape Foundation Review
Buildable coverage
A versatile foundation that looks natural but can provide full coverage if needed is essential in our makeup kit. Shape Tape covers redness and blemishes, as well as pores, fine lines and wrinkles. But it still gives the face a glass skin look. To achieve a natural look, buff the foundation out with a beauty blender. Or take it to the next level by applying an additional layer for a full glam look.
Nourishes the skin
Leaving the skin looking dewy and hydrated at all times due to being infused with hyaluronic acid, we couldn’t get past how healthy it makes the skin feel. Not to mention, the Face Tape feels light on the skin. This means you can wear it without feeling as though it is caking throughout the day. There is nothing better than natural feeling skin.
Non-oxidising
The worst feeling is leaving the house with your makeup looking 10/10, only to notice that it has turned darker or more orange over the course of the day. We can tell you that this foundation has been tested over long days in the sun, without oxidising or transferring, even with water and sweat. This is because of the natural formula of the foundation.
Shade range
Previously in their old Shape Tape foundation, there were only 15 shades. After re-developing, Tarte has come back with 50 shades with multiple undertones to match more skin colours. No more mixing two shades of foundation to create the perfect concoction to match your skin, because Tarte offers it all.
Key ingredients
The reason why there are so many benefits are because of the ingredients formulated together. For each shade, Tarte’s website has listed the ingredients as there are slight variations in order to work with different skin shades. Key ingredients include hyaluronic acid to moisten the skin, snow mushroom to hydrate and brighten the skin, and apple fruit extract which is rich in antioxidants.
How to prep the skin before using Tarte Face Tape Foundation
Step 1: Skincare – As always, a clean and moisturised face is key to a flawless makeup look. Opt for a hydrating moisturiser so that the makeup doesn’t dry out the skin throughout the day.
Step 2: Prime – Primer will help to lock the foundation in all day. For dry girls that absorb makeup faster, use a dollop the size of a 5 cent coin. Oilier skin holds makeup on the surface for longer, so using a very small amount is fine.
Step 3: Choose the right applicator to put foundation on – This is an incredibly important step that will change the way your makeup turns on. As a rule of thumb, a wet beauty blender or sponge is better for dry skin, while a makeup brush suits oily skin. This is because a wet beauty blender provides an additional layer of moisture to dry skin. Using a makeup brush on oily skin means the formula won’t be diluted with oils on the face, and therefore won’t soak up pigment. However, it is also necessary to consider the type of coverage you would like. Beauty blenders are great for a more natural and light coverage look as they can soak up some of the makeup, while brushes can be used to build up the foundation to give it a full coverage look.
Best ways to enhance the skin after application
The overall makeup look isn’t just perfected with a foundation, but also the following steps to set the foundation and enhance features on the face. To help shape the face, pairing a lighter shade of Tarte Shape Tape concealer to highlight the face, with a darker shade of the Shape Tape to contour the face works wonders. Because of the formulas that Tarte have created in their foundation and concealer, the concealer blends very easily into the foundation for a seamless look.
To lock this in all day, powder and setting spray will be your hero. Dry skin doesn’t need much powder as that can actually dry it out further, so it is only necessary in spots that can crease easily, such as under the eyes and along the smile lines. Setting spray will allow the makeup to all melt into each other, while keeping it on all day. Oily skin needs powder so that the makeup doesn’t glide off the skin throughout the day. However, using too much can take away from the dewiness that Tarte Face Tape foundation gives, so also finishing off with a setting spray will allow for a glowy look.
Top Drugstore Dupes For Tarte’s Face Tape Foundation
Although Tarte Face Tape is fairly reasonable for a high end makeup brand, we love a great drugstore dupe for half the price. So if you aren’t wanting to spend as much, but still want a healthy and youthful makeup look, we’ve got your back!
Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation
Maybelline
Not only is the Maybelline Fit Me foundation a perfect dupe for Tarte Face Tape foundation, but Maybelline also has a Fit Me concealer that works just as well as Tarte Shape Tape concealer. This hydrating foundation created a luminous finish, but also includes SPF 18 so can help to protect the skin from the sun. We aren’t surprised that this foundation has been around forever, because it is just as good as a high end foundation, without breaking the bank.
True Match Foundation
L’oreal Paris
This buildable and creamy foundation has now stepped up its game, as the formula now includes hyaluronic acid for that extra hydration and glow. For a natural and light weight look, True Match hides imperfections and blemishes, without feeling as though there is too much product on the skin. Much like the Tarte Face Tape foundation, L’Oreal’s True Match foundation has over 40 shades to choose from, to suit any skin tone.
Flawless Finish Foundation
e.l.f. Cosmetics
As the name suggests, this foundation gives the most incredible glass skin look. With 40 shades to choose from, the foundation is lightweight but still buildable to create a full coverage look. Similar to the Face Tape foundation, the Flawless Finish foundation is a long-wear foundation that blends naturally and easily into the skin. The formula helps to create brighter and healthier skin, and gives a similar finish to Tarte Face Tape foundation.
