Laneige The Brand

Don’t be fooled by the French name, Laneige is a South Korean cosmetics and skin care brand, which has now reached worldwide traction. The K-beauty brand has been around since 1994, and launched their hugely popular Lip Sleeping Mask in 2017.

Fittingly for this review, Laneige is a brand that is big on hydration. It is clearly their mission to harness the power of water and moisture for skin rejuvenation. This can be seen in their Water range, which is home to their much-loved Water Sleeping Mask.

Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask has been at the top of our must-review list for a while. The K-beauty brand is currently dominating the overnight lip mask scene. So, let’s delve further into the product itself.

Key Ingredients In The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask boasts a nutrient-rich blend of vitamin C and antioxidants, gleaned from raspberries, strawberries, cranberries and blueberries. They call this their Berry Mix Complex™, which is purported to nourish and brighten lips. Ascorbic acid is another great source of vitamin C in this mask.

The lip mask also incorporates hyaluronic acid, a moisturising powerhouse which helps your lips hold onto moisture and can even have plumping effects. Other hydrating superstars like glycerin and shea butter also make an appearance on the ingredients list.

How to Use

To use Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask, simply apply a generous layer to your lips before bed and let the moisturising magic happen.

Our Review of the Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask

Pros: What We Love About The Lip Mask

After slathering on Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask nightly for several weeks, here’s what we love about this product:

Texture

This lip mask has a luxurious, silky texture which applies like a dream. It is thicker than a traditional lip balm, but not waxy. We also like the cute little pink applicator which this mask comes with, as it makes the application a bit more hygienic.

Truth in Advertising

As promised, this lip mask delivers the softest, supplest lips we have ever encountered. It does more to nourish and hydrate than any traditional lip balm we have tried.

This lip mask works, and not just momentarily. It has longevity. Some mornings (after liberal application) we even woke up to a thin layer of the product moisturising still on our lips. Laneige’s mask makes for soft, plump lips which remain that way for hours after you roll out of bed.

Yes, we really believe this mask has plumping qualities. We can only assume this is thanks to the hydrating, moisture retaining powers of hyaluronic acid.

Diversity of Use

This product isn’t just an overnight lip mask, it can also be the best daily lip balm you have ever used. This little pink pot will become your best friend all hours of the day, not that you’ll need to do very much re-application.

This really is an apply once and forget lip product. It is so powerful that we can often go the whole day without dipping back in.

Cons: The Downsides

We only have a few gripes with this product, as for the most part, it is pretty outstanding.

Fragrance

While we do like the fact that this mask comes in several yummy scents, including Berry, Grapefruit, Vanilla and Mint Chocolate, we also know that the addition of fragrance to skincare is not ideal. Fragrances are a known allergen and irritant for some skincare users. They are often made up of a plethora of chemicals which can cause adverse effects.

The American Academy of Dermatology has identified fragrances as the leading cause of allergic reactions on the skin. If you have particularly sensitive skin and lips or a known allergy to fragrances, this product may not be for you.

Ease of Application/Portability

Laneige’s mask comes in a bulky little plastic tub, which looks cute on your bathroom counter, but isn’t the best for travelling with. If you want to use this product while out and about (which you will), you can’t exactly slip it in your back pocket like a regular lip balm.

The mask does come with a cute little applicator, but there is no convenient place to store it when on the go without it getting dirty or covered in the product. If you do choose to use this product for day-wear, you’ll be dipping your fingers into the tub daily for several months, which is not the most hygienic.

Cost

We know what you’re thinking, $28 for a glorified lip balm! We definitely concede that this product is pricey and may not fit into everyone’s budget.

This criticism is balanced, however, by the longevity of the product. Most Laneige users report that their little 20g pot lasts for over a year of daily usage. This well exceeds most conventional lip balms and makes us feel a little better about the price tag.

Final Thoughts about the Sleeping Lip Mask

Overall: 4/5 stars

So, is Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask worth the hype, all things considered? We’re going with yes! It’s rare to find a product that lives up to expectations and actually changes your daily routine for the better.

Yes, the product is pricey, especially compared to traditional lip balms. The longevity of use and overall quality, however, definitely make it worth the cost for us.

This is our new go to lip product for the most moisturised, nourished lips we have ever had. Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask is truly transformative, down to the last pink smudge.

Pinch us now – this sleeping mask is just plain dreamy.
