Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm Product Review

Sometimes it can be difficult finding the perfect makeup remover for our skin concerns, we’ve tried tonnes of cleansing balms our there and here’s our Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm review.

As someone with dry skin, certain makeup wipes left my skin feeling feel irritated or dry, especially around my eye area. This was when I decided to branch out from makeup wipes to something that may agree with my skin type a little more.

I started looking for something a bit different, something gentler and something that would do the job. Cleansing balms have recently become all the rage because they’re easy to use, low waste and really break down any makeup and dirt.

TL;DR

Pros:

+ Doesn’t leave skin feeling dry
+ Removes makeup well
+ Really gentle on skin

Cons:

– Process of removing makeup takes a bit longer than wipes
– Not super travel friendly

Overall:

4/5 ★★★★☆
The Clinique Take the Day Off range began as a liquid oil for lids, lashes and lips before becoming an all over face balm. It melts away your makeup, and leaves behind soft and supple skin with no greasy residue.

Our Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm Review

It’s the perfect makeup remover

This cleansing balm melts away your makeup with only a few gentle rubs to your skin and eyes. Unlike makeup wipes, where you tug and pull at your skin, this product is gentle because you control the product with the tips of your fingers. The consistency is soft and oily, so it isn’t harsh on your skin, and melts off any eye makeup (including waterproof mascara) without irritating or burn your eyes. I think we’ve all been there! But this product makes me excited to layer on eyeshadow, as the satisfaction of watching the balm melt off my eye makeup is just as fun!

There is minimal effort required to take your makeup off with this balm. Hence why I’ve never looked back. And it can replace your normal cleanser if you wish, as it also melts away SPF and dirt, making it perfect for non-makeup wearers as well!

Easy to use

This product is a piece of cake to use! Just scoop out a small amount on your fingertips (a little goes a long way because of its oily consistency), rub it between your fingers until the balm becomes a soft oil like texture and gentle rub it around your face and eyes (yes, its eye safe) in circular motions. Once your makeup has started to separate, use warm water and a soft cloth and wipe away the remainder of makeup. I usually use my hands to wipe off the excess like I would with a normal cleanser. But if you desire, you can go in with your normal cleanser for an extra squeaky-clean feeling. When taking off eye makeup, you can really go into your lashes and rub away your mascara, but remember to be gentle. Your eye area is still sensitive.

It’s that easy! No rummaging through your draws for cotton pads. No mess from leaking makeup remover bottles on your counter. Just a jar and that’s it!

Works for all skin types

If you have oily, dry, combination, sensitive or acne prone skin, then this product is perfect for you. Yep, this cleansing balm is suitable for all skin types. There is no alcohol in this product, which is typically drying and irritating towards dry skin. This product leaves your skin soft and hydrated, prepping your skin for the rest of your skincare routine.

There are no harsh chemicals or irritants either, so those with sensitive skin will really benefit from this product. You can use it on the most easily irritated areas of your face without suffering the consequences.

This product also does not clog pores, and rather cleanses and restores your skin after your heavy makeup application, so those with acne prone skin can breathe a sigh of relief.

The packaging is sturdy

The round, sturdy jar that this balm sits in gives an expensive feel to the product, while also looking stunning sitting in your bathroom. However, its a bit hard to travel with as its not particularly compact. On the flipside, the texture will not cause any leakage (we’ve all had that exploding sunscreen incident) and the jar can withstand some bumps here and there.

Environmentally sustainable

Not only is this balm a penny saver in the long run, but it’s also environmentally sustainable. Think about all the money and environmental waste you’re saving by discontinuing to buy packets of cotton pads. Brands are starting to become more sustainable in the way they create and package their products, and as consumers, we should also be straying away for wasteful one-time-use products. So, opt for cleansing balms to minimize waste, you’ll be surprised to realise how many one-time-use items you were using.

Final Thoughts about Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

Overall: 4/5 stars.

It’s worth it’s price.

Clinique is a bit more of a luxurious skincare and makeup brand due to its impressive abilities in repairing your skin and maintaining a healthy complexion. With this considered, a 125mL tub for $56 is quite cheap compared to other luxury brands that don’t have as much product nor use as clean ingredients. This will also last you a while, as you only need a small amount for your whole face. I found with my liquid makeup removers and micellar waters, I was often losing product from it soaking into my cotton pads (or accidentally spilling it all over my sink… oops!). Whereas, the cleansing balm doesn’t have far to go as it’s a solid paste until you rub it between your fingers, so no product is ever wasted.

Since discovering the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm, my night-time routine is less of a drag and a bit more of a fun activity. I was quite comfortable with my usual makeup removing routine that I wasn’t very open to try new ways and new products, but I’m so glad I did. I’m obsessed with this and the way it leaves my skin looking after every use.

Wipes would dry out my skin, while this removes all traces of makeup and leaves a hydrating glow. It’s so easy to use and has a lot of bang for your buck, why wouldn’t you try it?
