Cruelty Free Foundations

Many brands have become cruelty free over the years, or have started producing cruelty free products, but what does this actually mean?

How do you recognise a product that is cruelty free? And why should you even care, you’re just looking for a perfect foundation that won’t look cakey or orange right?

The team here at Wander Wonder are avid foundation lovers, but we’re also on a journey of learning more about sustainable and ethical beauty. We’ve searched high and low to present our top 9 cruelty free foundations.

Firstly, What Does Cruelty Free Mean?

Cruelty free is as it sounds, products free from animal cruelty. This means the products in their testing and production phase have NOT been tested on animals.

How Do I Know If A Product Or Brand Is Cruelty Free?

It is interesting to note that whilst a product may say ‘vegan,’ that only means there are no animal-derived ingredients, not necessarily ingredients that haven’t been tested on animals.

Always look for the wording ‘Cruelty-free,’ or ‘Not tested on animals’ before you purchase your product. Many brands such as Lush Cosmetics have incorporated a ‘leaping bunny’ icon to symbolise cruelty free. This symbol was created by the organisation PETA and is considered as the International Cruelty Free Leaping Bunny.

It is the globally-recognisable gold standard for cosmetics, personal care and household products. It is the only international logo that requires a supplier monitoring system to be implemented by the company, supply chain checking for animal testing right down to ingredient.

If a brand or product doesn’t say with words that they are cruelty free but they have a leaping bunny icon then it’s safe to purchase.

Why Should You Invest In Cruelty Free Makeup You Ask?

Firstly, it is not necessary to test on animals!

In this day and age we have many safe alternative methods to test chemicals and ingredients before using them on our skin. With many big brands already adopting these methods, there’s less reason to continue testing on innocent animals.

It leads to more mindful beauty practices

This one may seem obvious, but it goes deeper than just thinking about the innocent animals that are used for testing. Mindful beauty practices means everything from avoiding harmful chemicals for your own skin, recyclable packaging, best practices of the brand and how they operate. It’s about investing in brands who deserve social responsibility recognition and really thinking about what you use for your body.

Cruelty free products can be more natural

There is a reason brands who test on animals do so, and it’s generally because they are using chemicals so harsh for humans that they cannot do so until firstly testing on other organisms. Using cruelty free foundations in Australia will mean that you aren’t putting harsh and unnecessarily unnatural ingredients on your skin.

You have the power to generate change

Refusing to buy from brands who test on animals allows you to make a stand and show brands what values you are willing to pay for. The less we buy from them, the smaller their market gets, providing more need to change their practices.
